Award winning law firm, Jacksons, is delighted to announce its charity of the year 2019 as Dragonfly Cancer Trust.
The charity was founded in 2007, as Josies Dragonfly Trust, by the parents of of Josie Madeline Grove, shortly after she passed away aged 16.
In 2017 the charity re-branded and changed its name to Dragonfly Cancer Trust to coincide with the re-location from its headquarters in Hexham, Northumberland to new premises in Mea House in Newcastle City Centre.
Dragonfly Cancer Trust supports young cancer patients with very limited time, helping families and young couples create precious and lasting memories together. The charity provides Cash Gifts and organises Dragonfly Dreams for children and young people up to the age of 24 years old throughout the UK.
Some of the dreams the charity has helped come true, for the young people it supports, include buying a tractor for a 15 year old boy who wanted to be able to drive his own, a visit to Colchester zoo for a little boy and his family, the opportunity to drive a Lamborghini for a teenage boy and arranging for an independent publisher based in London to publish a book written by a little girl.
Jane Dennison, Director of Fundraising at Dragonfly Cancer Trust and her team, including Trustees and volunteers, are busy organising a wide range of events taking place this year to help raise funds and awareness for the charity. Those events include The Great Wall of China Trek, C2C bike ride and a Hadrians Wall Weekend. They are also looking for volunteers to sign up for their place in this years Great North Run in aid of the charity. Jane Dennison, said: "We are absolutely delighted and honoured to be chosen by the staff at Jackson's Law as their Charity of the Year. Their support will make a huge difference to the services we provide, and will enable many more young patients to create some very special memories within the limited time they have left."
Jacksons Law Firm has been supporting the charitys annual Bollywood ball for the last two years. The event is attended by 300 guests who have a fun night whilst raising thousands of pounds for this great cause. This years themed event is a masked ball on the 9th November at the Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park, Newcastle upon Tyne.
In September last year Jacksons Law Firm hosted a launch event in its Newcastle office to announce the arrival of the charity to its new base in Newcastle and to highlight its re-brand. Around 100 people attended the event including trustees, families and businesses from around the North East.
Karen Robinson, Partner at Jacksons Law Firm said: "Getting to know Jane and the Trustees over the last few months has been such a pleasure. We are all very excited at Jacksons to be working with the charity and look forward to planning events with them throughout the year to raise awareness of the great work they all do. Some of our staff already know of the work Jane and her colleagues do from attending the Bollywood Ball and the launch event."
Every year, Jacksons charity committee invite all staff at the firm to put forward details of local charities they would like to support throughout the year. The committee then decide on which charities should be shortlisted and the staff have the final vote on which charity is chosen.
