The BRITISH BUSINESS BANK – unlocking Finance for Smaller businesses
The British Business Bank is a government-owned financial institution. It drives economic growth by making finance markets work better for smaller businesses in the UK, allowing those businesses to prosper and grow.
British Business Bank's Senior Relationship Manager, Mark Wilcockson will introduce the bank and how it helps fund business growth and projects across the UK and Mercia Technology Investment Manager, Simon Crabtree will explain what equity is and how equity finance can transform your business.

Mark Wilcockson - Senior Relationship Manager UK Network, British Business Bank
Mark is the British Business Banks Relationship manager for Yorkshire Humberside and the Tees Valley. His core responsibilities include ensuring SME’s are aware of the alternative sources of finance and ensuring the role of the British Business bank is understood in the SME finance Market. Mark is also the Relationship Manager for the Northern powerhouse Investment Fund with responsibility for ensuring the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund is delivered across the Yorkshire and Humberside and Tees Valley Areas. Working alongside the Fund Managers his key role is to ensure the fund is promoted and understood across the Region and that businesses access the funding to allow them to grow and achieve their ambitions.
Simon Crabtree – Investment Manager, Mercia Technology
Simon joined Mercia Technology in 2017 and is a member of the NPIF - Mercia Equity Team. He is focused on identifying and delivering investments from NPIF Equity and is the primary contact in the Tees Valley and Humber regions. He supports a growing number of investments in these areas.
Previous experience - Simon is from the materials and petrochemical industry, having held positions in Johnson Matthey and Davy Process Technology. This has included team management and leadership roles in research and development, technology licensing and technology consulting, which led to a number of patented commercialised processes for catalyst recovery, natural product conversion and bulk petrochemical manufacture; more recently operations, manufacturing excellence, and strategy development. Simon has a science and technology background with a degree and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Durham.
