Redcar and Cleveland Skills Strategy

Friday, 9th August 2019

Working alongside the Colleges Redcar & Cleveland Council are drafting a new Skills Strategy for Redcar & Cleveland.

Improving economic indicators including low levels of benefit claimants and high levels of employment suggest that the economy is improving. We are seeing early signs of increased opportunities around Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics, Bio-technologies, Health Care and Energy/Renewables. Future developments on the ex-SSI site are expected to bring thousands of jobs to the area in the next ten years. If we are to obtain the most benefit from these developments, we must have a plan that gives strategic direction to the skills providers and schools so that our local residents are prepared to take up the future jobs. We are confident that our Skills Strategy will do that and so we are in the process of drafting that strategy right now.

A big part of that process is making sure that we consult with local businesses. We want to understand what issues local businesses are having with recruiting the right staff or with retaining staff with the correct skills. Over the next couple of weeks, we want local businesses to provide us with their comments and thoughts on the situation so that we can influence the strategy for the benefit of those business.

We have devised an on-line survey for employers and I would really appreciate if you could take ten minutes out of your busy schedule to give us your thoughts. The link to the employer survey is:
