2025 Business Resolutions
January is the month of personal and business resolutions, both aimed at achieving better fitness for today and tomorrow. What better way to use the North East Initiative on Business Ethics legacy to shine a spotlight on our role as corporate citizens and individuals to help today’s children secure the future they deserve?
Katrina Morley OBE, CEO of Tees Valley Education and co-author of Tackling Disadvantage and Poverty in Schools published by Bloomsbury in February 2025, will paint the reality of growing up in the Tees Valley today and share what the vibrant TVBC community is already contributing to tomorrow’s world.
Running order:

Caroline Theobald CBE
BRIDGE CLUB
Caroline Theobald used the 2000 dot com boom to set up Bridge Club Ltd and connect business founders with money, management and new markets.
There were a lot of ambitious young entrepreneurs who had good, problem-solving ideas, but didn’t have the connections to help those ideas grow. Bridge Club provided those important links and celebrated the importance of business founders.
Bridge Club is still in business today offering connections that matter to a diversity of clients including the Royal Academy of Engineering and Northumberland employers; Swedish inward investors; school, college and university students. Caroline’s non-executive roles focus on making a positive contribution to the north east economy.
She was a co-founder of the North East Initiative of Business Ethics and is one of the founding directors of the Power of Women Campaign and an associate of the Tees Valley Business Club. She has recently been appointed an honorary Doctor of Civil Law at Northumbria University and was until recently the chair of the Advisory Board to Newcastle Business School, where she is also a visiting professor.
Katrina Morley OBE
TEES VALLEY EDUCATION
Katrina began her career in chemical engineering before moving into education. Following a successful career as a teacher, senior leader and headteacher, Katrina became CEO of Tees Valley Education Trust. She holds a variety of regional and national roles with organisations to support leaders and schools to better tackle educational inequality. Katrina is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching (FCCT).
Tom Smyth
DARLINGTON ECONOMIC CAMPUS
Tom is currently the Acting Area Director for the Cities and Local Growth Unit, covering Yorkshire and the North East. He has over 25 years of experience in implementing national policies and programmes within the region, with roles including the development and implementation of New Deal for Communities, Neighbourhood Management pathfinders Local Strategic Partnerships, and Local Area Agreements.
