Land of Iron is an independent museum, opened in 1983 by a dedicated team of passionate volunteers. First founded by Tom Leonard, we have striven to maintain his vision of a museum that keeps the history and heritage the mining industry alive.

As an independent museum and registered charity, we are reliant on footfall to keep the museum operational. As people across the Tees Valley face the difficulties of rising costs, the museum finds itself in similar waters.

We would like to collaborate with local businesses big and small, to explore ways that we can support and be supported by our neighbours across the Tees Valley.
