Things are happening at Teesside Airport. Discover the exciting redevelopment work taking place at Teesside International Airport with this virtual event, hosted by Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen and Teesside Airport’s Interim Managing Director Phil Forster.
After securing a number of new domestic and summer holiday services, Teesside International is getting ready to welcome more and more passengers through its terminal in 2021. To make the passenger experience as quick, easy and stress-free as possible, the airport is currently undergoing a host of improvements to check-in and security, with new food and drink offers and the return of duty free.
The event will be your opportunity to get an overview of the past two years, since the airport was brought into public control, and learn how it is on track to deliver its 10-Year Turnaround Plan. The vision for the refurbishment of the airport and plans for future development will be laid out in full, with the chance to take a virtual fly-through tour of how the airport could look after work is complete.

Phil Forster, Interim Managing Director – Teesside International Airport
Phil began his career in television, spending five years as a reporter with Sky based across the North of England and Scotland before moving into aviation in role of Media & Public Affairs Manager at Newcastle Airport. After spending three years at the North East airport, Phil moved to Leeds Bradford Airport firstly in the role of Aviation Development & Corporate Affairs Manager, before progressing to become the airport’s Head of External Affairs.
Phil led the airport’s public affairs strategy, including lobbying on aviation strategy and capacity and was heavily involved in the airport’s aeronautical and commercial operation, aimed to put customer experience at the heart of the business strategy while boosting the airport’s international connectivity.
He joined Teesside International Airport as Commercial Director in 2019 before taking on the role of Interim Managing Director in 2020. He is responsible for overseeing Teesside International and its redevelopment plans, to ensure the airport is ready for the expected increase in passenger numbers resulting from securing new domestic and holiday services.
Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor

Ben Houchen was elected as the Mayor of the Tees Valley in May 2017. The Tees Valley area covers the five boroughs of Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-on-Tees.
Prior to becoming Mayor, Ben was a Councillor on Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, representing Yarm and Kirklevington Ward. He also led the Council’s Opposition Group. In 2012 he stood as the parliamentary candidate in the Middlesbrough by-election, and in 2014 stood to become our region’s Member of the European Parliament.
Ben is Teesside born and bred. A qualified solicitor, he has worked for two local firms specialising in commercial litigation and employment law. In 2016 Ben founded BLK UK – an international sportswear business, which supplies clothing to amateur and professional clubs. As Chief Executive of BLK UK, he delivered an impressive programme of growth and company expansion. Since the election, Ben has stepped down from his position at BLK and is dedicating all of his time to his Mayoral role.
