The recent budget was positive for our region with the announcement of a freeport for Tees Valley and the treasury move to Darlington. The Chancellor Rishi Sunak praised the Tees Valley in his speech to Parliament and referenced the postive future his budget offers. In our third event of the year we welcome a panel of speakers who will explain why this budget was so uplifting for the region and how it impacts businesses choosing totrade here.

You will hear from Chris Rowell who was part of the team who prepared the bid to make the Tees Valley a freeport alongside two clients of The Endeavour Partnership whose sites are located within the freeport zone, AV Dawson who operate the Port of Middlesbrough and Teesside International Airport. We will also be joined by Peter Gibson MP who will provide an update on Treasury North and what we can expect from this win.

PRESENTERS

Gareth Jones, The Endeavour Partnership
 


 

Gareth joined the firm in 2018, becoming the third partner in their highly experienced commercial property team.
 

Graduating from Liverpool University in 1990, Gareth has over 25 years of expertise in commercial property matters, particularly portfolio management work for a wide range of clients. He also has a keen interest in the real estate aspects of bank funding and finance and has experience acting on behalf of both the borrowing business and the main household name banks.
 

Gareth has a commercially focused approach to property which compliments his close working relationship with the firm's corporate and commercial team. As an adopted Teessider, Gareth has a client base stretching across Yorkshire, County Durham and the Tees Valley.
 

Charlie Nettle, AV Dawson
 


 

Charlie is the commercial & marketing director at AV Dawson, which owns and operates Port of Middlesbrough. After completing a masters in marketing communications, he has spent the majority of his career in the business-to-business (B2B) sector, including six years as head of marketing for the North East England Chamber of Commerce. In this role, he led the Chamber’s rebrand, bicentenary campaign and a membership segmentation programme that was recognised with a British Chambers of Commerce Award.  
 

Charlie is a Chartered fellow and former chair for the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is also a trustee for the mental health charity, Middlesbrough and Stockton MIND and secretary for Tees & Hartlepool Port Users Association (THPUA).
 

Phil Forster, Teesside International Airport
 


 

Phil began his career in television, spending five years as a reporter with Sky based across the North of England and Scotland before moving into aviation in role of Media & Public Affairs Manager at Newcastle Airport. After spending three years at the North East airport, Phil moved to Leeds Bradford Airport firstly in the role of Aviation Development & Corporate Affairs Manager, before progressing to become the airport’s Head of External Affairs.
 

Phil led the airport’s public affairs strategy, including lobbying on aviation strategy and capacity and was heavily involved in the airport’s aeronautical and commercial operation, aimed to put customer experience at the heart of the business strategy while boosting the airport’s international connectivity.
 

He joined Teesside International Airport as Commercial Director in 2019 before taking on the role of Interim Managing Director in 2020. He is responsible for overseeing Teesside International and its redevelopment plans, to ensure the airport is ready for the expected increase in passenger numbers resulting from securing new domestic and holiday services.
 

Peter Gibson MP


 

Peter Gibson was born in Middlesbrough and grew up in Saltburn, the son of a shipwright and a midwife. Peter attended a local comprehensive school in the North East of England and Chaired the Young Conservatives in Langbaurgh. Peter went on to read Law at Newcastle University and practised law for 20 years, building a regional high street law firm.  
 

Peter stood as the parliamentary candidate for Redcar in 2017. During the 2019 general election Peter won the seat of Darlington in Co. Durham, becoming its first Conservative Member of Parliament since 1992. 
 

In his maiden speech, Peter championed local community action groups tackling inequality across the constituency. Peter has served as a hospice trustee for 10 years and sits on the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Hospice and End of Life Care. 
 

Peter sits on many APPGs including Heritage Rail and the Global LGBT+ APPG. Peter is also Chair of the APPG for Social Integration and APPG for Personal Banking and Fairer Financial Services.  Peter was promoted to Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Party Chairman in November 2020.
