Accountancy firm boosts headcount with new recruits

A North East chartered accountancy firm has strengthened its practice with an intake of new recruits.

Tara Ballantyne and Chantelle Hodgson have joined Stockton-based Baines Jewitt - one of Teesside's largest firms of chartered accountants.

Tara, 18, from Eaglescliffe joined the firm after completing A Levels at Egglescliffe Sixth Form. Talking of her appointment she said:

"I took part in a one week work experience placement at Baines Jewitt in February of this year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I was delighted when an opportunity came up to join the firm as a trainee accounting technician."

As well as gaining practical experience in the workplace, Tara is embarking on a professional training programme that includes additional study, via Middlesbrough College, towards the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification at Level 2. As testament to her ambition, Tara has already expressed an interest in progressing to the Level 3 and Level 4 qualifications.

"After my AAT qualifications, I would like to continue my studies so that I can become an Associate Chartered Accountant. I am really excited about being at Baines Jewitt. It's a friendly place to work, with a supportive environment for personal and professional development."

Chantelle, 38, from Skelton was working as the finance officer at a local primary school before joining Baines Jewitt. As a Fellow Charted Accountant (FCA), Chantelle has 17 years professional experience to her name, which she built up through other accountancy practices, as well as doing general accounts and advisory work.

"I heard that Baines Jewitt is a great place to work, with traditional values and a forward-thinking approach. In particular, I like the fact that there is a focus on client service, which provides an opportunity to get out and meet people to build relationships."

Talking of the firms recent recruitment drive, Trevor Cook, director Baines Jewitt said: "We're delighted to welcome Tara and Chantelle to Baines Jewitt. They have already proved themselves to be enthusiastic, hard-working and committed to developing professional skills for the benefit of our clients and our company as a whole. I am sure they will be extremely successful here.
