Demand for new business expertise gives Shaun a lift

Shaun Galloway is confident that 2024 is going to be a good year for his new Tees- based business Galloway Engineered Lifting Ltd.

The business, set up only last summer at the Innovation Centre in Hartlepool, operated by UKSE, the Tata Steel business support subsidiary, is already securing contracts across a wide range of sectors and expanding its team.

Consulting Engineers Milos Basic and Iwan Williams have both just joined the company alongside Company Secretary Lorraine Smith and trainee draughtswoman Kate Sugden, as Shaun sees good prospects for growth not only in the North but right across the UK.

Galloway Engineered Lifting Ltd is providing bespoke lifting solutions to a fast-growing number of clients thanks to the engineering, design and technical consulting expertise that Shaun built up whilst working with multi-national companies in fields such as defence, nuclear and aerospace.
The lifting of large equipment is a vital part of operations and a substantial expenditure for a wide range of companies.

“There is no limit really to the tonnes we can manage,” said Shaun, “and demand is increasing, especially from growing areas such as the nuclear and hydrogen industries. We are also working with Komatsu, the world- leading manufacturer and supplier of construction, mining and utility equipment to companies around the globe.

“Currently we employ a number of sub-contractors but there is a shortage of skilled engineers and one of my goals is to create jobs and apprenticeships for Teesside to help fill those gaps.

“I have always wanted to establish my own business and am very pleased with the way our first year is developing. The Innovation Centre is an ideal place for us to start and grow. We currently have an office but could well be looking for workshop space soon, as we expand.

“Everything has gone very smoothly, the space is cost-effective and flexible with a lot of facilities such as fast reliable Internet and 24-7 access as well as support from the on-site UKSE team,” he added.
