The Bank of England is the UK’s central Bank, a public body aiming to maintain monetary and financial stability.

There are 12 Agencies around the UK, with each region having its own Agency providing economic intelligence from local businesses to the policymakers who set interest rates.

The Bank will soon be expanding its presence in the North and recently announced its plans to open a new hub in Leeds.

The North East Agency has four staff, including Agent Mauricio Armellini and Deputy Agent, Gareth Harrison, both of whom will be familiar to members of the Tees Valley Business Club.

They gather information in a range of ways including speaking with businesses one-to-one, taking part in round table events and attending local business clubs.

When discussing with Deputy Agent Gareth Harrison on why the Bank of England joined Tees Valley Business Club, he stated: “We’ve always interacted with the Club; we’ve had the pleasure of speaking at events on multiple occasions and the club has kindly let us host round-table events with its members for a while now.

“The club is a great opportunity to interact with the local business community, it has broadened our contact range, which has successfully allowed us to gather the economic intelligence we need.”
