Clean Slate Solutions is a charity that supports people with a past conviction into paid employment through its partners in Teesside and North Yorkshire. Their approach is focused on transparency and kindness, ensuring when they advocate on behalf of candidates, they have the best opportunity of succeeding.

Clean Slate Solutions ensure their candidates are work-ready and help with CV writing, interview coaching and help with travel to and from interviews. Plus, they help with travel once securing a job offer and provide coaching and mentoring to help people adjust.

They have strict criteria of the type of convictions they work with and refer those that they don’t work with to appropriate organisations and charities that can help. The candidates give full disclosure, and every candidate writes their journey and the circumstances that surrounded the conviction. 

Marc Winter, corporate partnerships manager, said: “We are really proud of the results we get from one single KPI (do the right thing), we work with around 90 businesses and we are always looking for new partnerships, Betty’s and Taylors, Yorkshire Tea, MAP Group, Iceland, Shoe Zone, Aldi and Hilton Hotels, are just a few that choose to support us “One Candidate at a time”. Marc’s first experience of the Tees Valley Business Club was as a guest and shortly joined the club after his first visit.

Marc added: “I applied to join the club based on the interaction with people at my first event I attended as a guest. I bumped into a lot of people who were really supportive – it was also great to see so many familiar faces everyone was so positive and super complimentary about TVBC. The other massive and unexpected bonus was being introduced to the Infant Hercules – a choir of men based in Stockton. I loved it and I have since joined the choir – we meet every Thursday!”
