UK Export Finance (UKEF) is the UK’s export credit agency and a government department that exists to ensure no viable UK export fails for lack of finance or insurance.

In 2016/17, they provided over £7 million of support to exporters in the North East, resulting in over £40 million worth of overseas sales for North East businesses. What’s more, 79% of the companies UKEF supported last year were small to medium-sized enterprises.

UKEF work with banks and private insurers to either enhance the support they’re able to provide, or to fill gaps in the market where there is a demand that the private sector is unable to meet, backed by UK government finance.

  by supporting working capital loans and contract bonds

  by insuring against non-payment by overseas buyers
