New member Yarm School

Yarm School is a leading independent school for boys and girls aged 3-18 located in the beautiful town of Yarm. Well known for its outstanding academic credentials and extensive extra-curricular programme, it aims to provide pupils with the attributes they need to develop into adults who will contribute positively to society, truly ‘educating for life’.

The school’s sporting reputation is also enviable, with success being achieved right up to national level (and even an Olympic gold!) and a wide range of sports offered. An adventurous outdoor education programme, led by highly qualified outdoor education specialists, includes canoeing, skiing, mountain biking, rock-climbing, caving, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, the CCF and overseas expeditions and trips.

The school is highly respected for its strength in music and drama with an auditorium which seats 750 which hosts regular school concerts and productions. A cultural hub for the region, the Princess Alexandra Auditorium and Friarage Theatre have a varied and exciting programme of music, comedy, drama, dance and live screenings of theatre and opera open to the community.

Dr Huw Williams, Headmaster said: “Yarm believes firmly in "education for life" looking to develop young people as learners but also in the broadest sense, preparing them for success beyond school in further study or the world of work.

“There is a well-developed system of pastoral care, providing support for each individual pupil and helping them understand themselves, their relationships with others and the importance of community and service.

“Sport and over 50 activities all take place within the timetable and the school is committed to developing pupils’ interpersonal and leadership skills, problem solving abilities and creative inquiry, supporting each pupil to develop as rounded, resilient and compassionate young people.”

Dr Williams continued: “We are excited to be joining the Tees Valley Business Club and hosting one of the events at Yarm School this month. Connecting with businesses and other organisations in the Tees Valley will help us become part of an extensive network of business leaders committed to supporting young people to succeed and thrive in this region, and we will look to understand the priorities and needs of businesses and the skills and attributes they are looking for in future employees.

“Yarm values its community links, and we are looking forward to strengthening and growing these whilst supporting the Tees Valley.”
