Teenager opens fashion outlet in Middlesbrough

A Middlesbrough mother has joined forces with Dodds Brown and the towns Dundas Market to provide a flying start to her daughters working life by opening a ladies fashion outlet.

Seventeen-year-old Lydia Khan has opened Lydia's Closet to sell fashion aimed at young customers.

Like lots of teenagers she has always been interested in fashion, so her mum Jenna has helped her open the shop selling ladies clothes, shoes and jewellery.

Lydia's Closet will initially sell fashion aimed at young customers, but the plan is to increase its range to suit all ages and sizes. Once the business is established Lydia would also like to expand her collection so that it caters for plus sizes as there is currently a shortage of availability and choice.

"It's been a long held dream of mine to have my own fashion shop and thanks to my mum and the Dundas Market, I've achieved it", says Lydia Khan.

Through its business creation and growth scheme, Middlesbrough's Dundas Market - part of the town's Dundas Shopping Centre - was the ideal place to open Lydia's Closet.

Letting agent for the Dundas Shopping Centre and Indoor Market, Dodds Browns Richard Wilson says: "Our enterprise initiative helps entrepreneurs try out their business ideas while minimising costs and risks. We have a limited number of Enterprise Units available, where the rent is as little as £10 per day all in. There is just the rent to pay, no worries about costs for security, utilities and rates."

Lydia's Closet is the third new tenant in Dundas Market this month (June 2018), following hard on the heels of The Little Vegan Market and Pierres Unisex Hair Salon and Barbers.

Dundas Market Manager David Harris continues: "We help businesses get off the ground in those all-important early months of trading. Our market traders work together and we are building clusters of ladies fashion, health and beauty and food businesses. Weve placed Lydia's Closet next to Ebenezers Bag Boutique to help both traders with cross selling.

"We still have a few units available, especially for traders looking to sell toys, music/games/books or fruit and veg. But, we are always interested to hear from people with an idea for a new business, or who are looking to open a second outlet for their existing business", says David.
