UK Recovery Walk Middlesbrough September 2019

As you may know Middlesbrough beat Luton to host the UK Recovery walk in September, 2019. The UK recovery walks have become an annual event that combine the celebration of recovery with advocacy activities. Each year, a new city or town takes on the responsibility for hosting the walk. The walk has historically consisted of a public parade in the host town or city. Over the last few years, here in the UK, people in recovery have taken significant strides in putting a positive face on recovery. Following the walk there will be a free festival consisting of live bands, childrens activities, market place, food vendors and much more! Attendance has in previous years peaked at around 10,000 participants and averaged 5000.

We have had a wonderful response from services and various connected organisations and we look forward to working with you all as part of the wider planning group for the UK Recovery Walk 2019. The group will consist of representatives from the Recovery Community, HMP Prisons, Recovery Groups, friends of recovery and services supporting Recovery across Middlesbrough & the North East and be facilitated by Annemarie Ward, CEO of FAVOR UK.

In addition to the monthly planning group, there will also be a UK Recovery Walk Host committee made up of core members of Middlesbrough Recovery community and Faces & Voices of Recovery UK trustees who will oversee the work and direction of the planning group to fulfil MBC Events requirements for the walk in 2019.

The walk will be funded entirely through sponsorship, donations and small grants. If you are connected with businesses or potential donors we would be very grateful of an introduction or for them to attend the planning meeting. Donations can be in kind such as Portaloos, marquees, marketing, graphic design, event management, childrens entertainment etc.

We look forward to welcoming you to our first UK Recovery Walk 2019 monthly planning meeting on Friday 18th January from 10am 12noon in Bar Zero, Middlesbrough.
