Sippi is an ethical jewellery brand inspired by the beauty, movement and textures of the ocean.
Named after the Sinhala word for seashell, the business was founded with a deep connection to both the sea and Sri Lankan heritage. Every piece is handcrafted in small batches by skilled artisans using responsibly sourced and recycled materials, including sea glass and freshwater pearls.
Drawing inspiration from shells, coral, waves and tidal patterns, Sippi creates jewellery that celebrates the natural imperfections and individuality found in nature. Alongside creating timeless designs, the brand is committed to supporting fair wages, artisan visibility and the preservation of traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Sippi aims to strengthen the connection between the wearer, the maker and the environment that inspired each piece. The business also supports ocean conservation initiatives, with a percentage of annual profits contributing towards projects focused on marine protection, including coral restoration, coastal clean-ups and the removal of abandoned fishing nets.
Having recently moved to the Tees Valley, the founder Sepi, joined Tees Valley Business Club to become more involved in the local business community and build meaningful connections across the region. She said: “I love the area and I love the people. Joining the Club is about becoming part of the local business community, meeting people from different sectors and learning from what they´re building. For me, it´s less about formal networking and more about building genuine relationships over time.”
Looking ahead, Sippi is developing an immersive ocean-inspired experience that combines storytelling, design and interactive technology to explore the relationship between fashion, craftsmanship and environmental responsibility. Through the project, Sippi hopes to bring people closer to the stories, values and environmental principles behind the brand, using creativity and experience to inspire awareness and positive change.
